I was about sixteen/seventeen when I wrote it, it was a post apocalyptic tale of humanity who had returned to farming and foraging, discovering the lost world beneath their feet. My Writing Story
Best advice ever... stick to what you know.
My name is Colin Young, I have been writing since I was sixteen years old, I still have a lot of the notebooks I used to hand write in. At the time I started writing stories, I also started writing poetry, and then when I learned to play the guitar, I started writing songs. I think I have written over two hundred songs.
In 2008 I started to write screenplays of my ideas, and after writing around three screenplays, I switched to writing novels. In 2011 I completed my first novel, 'Thirds', in the intervening years I have gone back into that novel about three times and rewritten or changed large chunks of it.
Since writing my first novel in 2011, I have written 11 books, none of which are published. This website is my vehicle to start to publish my writings and get my novels out there.
Who am I?
Husband, father, worshipper, dreamer
I have fifty years on this glorious planet, I have an awesome wife, I have six children, all boys, I work full time, and I love the Lord with all my heart and soul.
I have interests in lots of things that take up time, football, running, nature, birds, trees, the world around me, people watching, learning every day about how to coexist with everything around us. Time is precious, but what I have learned is that you can get time back and use it for creative purposes.
And how do you get time back? Three easy steps:
- Stop filling your time with watching rubbish on TV
- Re-orient yourself to actually take an interest in your surroundings
- Pray, God loves it when you talk to him, he will give you the desires of your heart, and if that is more time, then you will get more time!
What are my aims?
Luke Skywalker aimed for a small thermal exhaust port, which was around a metre in width, which he hit, and it caused the destruction of the Death Star!
I'm not out to take down empires, but possibly to build a small empire that comprises my stories, novels and writings. I would love to write for a living, publish three novels a year, and potentially see some of my stories brought to life through other media.
How can I achieve all of this? Well, it takes money to have stories and novels professionally edited, formatted and released. The hope is to continue to offer up my stories and make progress in publishing, whether it be self-publishing or through a company.
